First Weighted Vest: Take Aim at Weight Loss and Muscle Building

First Weighted Vest is clothing designed to add more weight to the body for exercise or therapy. It is a type of resistance training for weight loss (improves calorie burning) and muscle building when combined with an appropriate exercise routine, including walking and running.

The weighted vest can also intensify exercises and improve endurance and balance.

Benefits of walking while wearing a weighted vest are:

1. Building of muscle strength and bone density,

2. Burning more calories, and

3. Expanding lung capability.

Other benefits of walking while wearing a weighted vest are:

4. Enhancing the heart’s pumping capability and

5. Improving core strength involving abdominal and back muscles.

Most notably is that for older persons, a weighted vest is an effective means of sustaining and building muscle. The weighted vest provides equivalent benefits as lifting weights. Many people, however, may find weighted vests more accessible (Golen, 2025).

First Weighted Vests comes in three varieties:

Variety 1: First Weighted Running Vest: It is made from Neoprene fabric, and it is adjustable (free size). It weighs around 0.5 kilogram. It has a capacity for six (6) pounds (around 2.7 kilograms) weights. The weights include iron pellets, iron sand, and/or steel plates.

Variety 2: First Weighted Running Vest: It weighs around 0.5 kilogram. It has a capacity for 10 pounds (around 4.5 kilograms) weights.

Variety 3: First Weighted Walking Vest: It is made from polyester fabric. It has a capacity for 22 pounds (around 10 kilograms) to 44 pounds (around 20 kilograms) weights. It weighs 1.5 kilograms (without weights), and is black in color or the color can be customized. The vest is also adjustable, meaning it can be arranged to different sizes/positions.

Both the polyester and Neoprene weighted vests uniformly distribute weight across your back, shoulders, and leg (shin and/or calf). Padded straps keep you comfortable.

For the polyester weighted vest, a pocket in the arm also enables you to add more weight or store your stuff, including mobile phone, as you log miles (or kilometers) walking. The fastener at the front is adjustable – the size is actually adjustable.

Remaining in place, the weighted vest also has reflective straps for low-light conditions.

Neoprene

Neoprene is a brand name of polychloroprene that was initially produced by DuPont Corporation of the United States. Neoprene is utilized as an alternative for rubber.

Benefits of Neoprene Fabric

• Waterproof: Creates impenetrable barrier to water;

• Resists drastic temperature changes, enabling it to stay elastic (flexible). What is more is that it simultaneously stays comfortable in temperatures that range from -40 degrees Celsius to +120 degrees Celsius;

• Thermo-regulating: Neoprene can absorb and retain the heat from the body. Neoprene thus allows athletes, outdoor persons, and more to fulfill varied activities in extreme conditions;

• Highly Durable: It is tear and abrasion-resistant, and does not degrade like rubber;

• Elastic;

• Versatile: Neoprene is formed, not woven. It is thus highly versatile;

• Insulates against environmental and weather conditions, chemical conditions, and more;

• Maintains shape;

• Resists wrinkles;

• Resists varied environmental and chemical factors. They include sun ultraviolet radiation, oxidation, polluting agents, solvents, petroleum-based fuels, oils, and more; and

• It may resist fire.

Neoprene Manufacturing

Natural chloroprene initially undergoes polymerization. It is consequently transformed into synthetic polychloroprene (Neoprene).

Neoprene raw materials are in liquid form. These raw materials are filled in barrels. Consequently, they are transported to a processing plant/s. Based on the formula embraced, important additives are included in the liquid with the aim of promoting physical characteristics.

The solution is then baked in an industrial oven, thereby becoming a hardened “loaf.”

The hardened neoprene “loaf” is cut in sheets (slices). The cut slices can be of different thickness.

A manufacturer will thus work with sheets having thickness of three (3) millimeters (mm) to five (5) millimeters (mm).

The sliced Neoprene is transported to a clothing manufacturer. The clothing manufacturer sews the varied slices to manufacture cloths or clothing.

Further Applications of Neoprene Fabric

Neoprene has never struggled to find new uses. It is applied in sportswear (activewear), outerwear, equipment, gear, and more.

More specifically, Neoprene fabric is used in manufacturing:

• Apparel (weighted vests, belts, jackets, and more),

• Non-medical and medical gloves,

• Sports vests,

• Sports bras,

• Swimsuits (wetsuits),

• Dresses,

• Lunch bags,

• Water sports gear (including Scuba diving and surfing gear),

• Mouse pads,

• Electronic cases,

• Springs,

• Wire insulation,

• Gaskets,

• Adhesives, and more.

Note that Neoprene jackets, wetsuits, and gloves are utilized in sailing, kayaking, and surfing (Ariaprene, 2020).
